Around a month ago, marketers utilizing Instagram received some positive news. The social platform announced that Insights and Analytics, Post Promotion, and Business profiles were finally going to be available to marketers through an update coming soon called Instagram for Business.
Have another social media need? We can help.
Although the company did not initially say how soon the tools would be available, brands are now able to access them by connecting their Facebook page (remember that Facebook owns Instagram) to their Instagram account. Don’t know how to make that happen? We’ve got you covered. We created a step-by-step guide to switch your account to Business, and will fill you in on the benefits of the update and what to look out for.
Brands can now access Instagram for Business accounts by connecting their Facebook page to their Instagram account.
How to Switch to Instagram for Business
Making the switch is pretty easy. Navigate to your profile in Instagram (for mobile), and under Account Settings you’ll see an option called “Switch to Business Profile.”
You will then be asked to log in to Facebook within the app.
After that, you’ll be asked to select which Facebook page you want to connect. You must be an admin of the page you’re wanting to connect, and can only connect one Instagram Business profile and Facebook page together.
Instagram will then ask which contact information you want to pull from your Facebook page, such as customer service phone number, email address, or mailing address. A minimum of one contact is required to set up an Instagram Business profile.
Just like that, you’re set up on Instagram for Business. You can see the differences between the Business profile below.
Instagram Insights does not pull historical data, it starts collecting once an Instagram Business profile is set up.
The variations include a “Contact” button which accesses the contact info previously mentioned, the business type you have selected within Facebook, and at the top right next to your settings cog wheel is your access to Insights.
It’s important to note that Instagram Insights does not pull historical data. Rather, it starts collecting once an Instagram Business profile is set up:
If you ever want to switch back to a regular profile, you can do so in Account Settings. If you still need help, try watching this how-to video from Facebook..
The New Features
Business profiles – The look and feel of the business profile sets it apart from regular user accounts, and pulls info like contact information in from the FB, but still allows shoppable Instagram links to stay.
Insights – The types of insights offered include impressions, reach, and clicks to website on a weekly basis from an account standpoint, as well as impressions, reach, and engagement on a post-by-post basis (see below).
Promote – The same way you have the ability to “boost” posts in Facebook, you can now promote posts in Instagram as well, separate from running an Instagram ad.
Once data begins to populate, we will be able to find more insights on how to make the data actionable. Additionally, as these Business profiles roll out, we will gain more insight into the impacts that the updates have.
